Appeal to Support Flood Affected Communities

Friends Service Council Nepal (FSCN) is a non-profit making national level non-government organization working for socio-economic development, disaster risk management, WASH (water, sanitation and hygiene), livelihood support, good governance and human rights in Nepal since 1991. FSCN aims to fight against poverty and injustice through socio-economic empowerment of the poor and marginalized people, gender equality and social inclusion (GESI).

 

FSCN is a pioneer organization working in Disaster Risk Reduction and WASH. FSCN has been working for different types of Disaster affected people for Humanitarian support since its establishment. After the devastating earthquake of 2015, FSCN implemented various relief, response and recovery projects in Kathmandu, Lalitpur and Bhakapur districts in Nepal in partnership with DCA, Act Alliance, NCA, World Jewish Relief (WJR) and Help Age International Nepal. It has been projects in partnership with DCA, Act Alliance, WJR and Frank Water International till date. In past, FSCN has worked for the humanitarian support for the disaster affected people especially focused on Flood and Landslide with various partners such as, AMCHOR-USA, CARITAS Nepal, AusAID, Global Ministry, Netherlands etc.

 

Nepal is a very vulnerable country in regard to natural disasters such as earthquake, landslides, flood etc. During the monsoon season every year hundreds of thousands of people are affected by the flood and landslides in Nepal. According to Ministry of Home Affairs, the incessant rainfall and flood has affected 29 districts of Terai and Hilly region of Nepal. Death toll has reached at least 36 with 12 missing. The casualty number is expected to increase more. An emergency meeting of the National Disaster Relief Committee estimated that around 50,000 people have been hugely affected by floodwaters and it has destroyed foodstuff and other belongings.

 

In this time of crisis, FSCN would like to appeal to the national and international organizations and community to support the affected families in relief and response programs. FSCN has also started response activities for the affected families.
