SWC field monitoring Visit- December 2015

December 26, 2015: Social Welfare Council Vice Chairperson Mr. Pramod Mehta and Deputy Director Mr. Ram Sharma completed two day field monitoring visit on 25th and 26th December, in various areas of Bhaktapur and Lalitpur districts covered by Friends Service Council Nepal (FSCN)’s “Nepal Earthquake Emergency Response/Recovery Project” supported by Act Alliance, Dan Church Aid (DCA) & Norwegian Church Aid (NCA).  The project started immediately after April 2015 earthquake and will last till April 2016.

First day (Bhaktapur district visit)

The monitoring started from Nekosera, Madhyapur Thimi Municipality of Bhaktapur district. The SWC inspectors visited the temporary shelters and household latrines of the beneficiaries of “Cash top-up support” and “Hygiene promotion” programs of DCA/ NCA and FSCN. There was interaction between the local community people and some people from a local youth club who informed the SWC personnel about the activities of FSCN in their place.

The team then went to Chhaling, Changunarayan municipality of Bhaktapur district where the villagers greeted them with a warm welcome. An interaction program took place with the local community people along with the project site inspection. The community people showed the inspectors temporary shelters, toilets and water reservoir made and maintained by support from DCA/ NCA and FSCN. The local people expressed their gratitude to the FSCN and DCA staffs especially for the drinking water project which provided them a huge relief.

The team then moved to Changunarayan-10 where similar interaction program with the community people and project site monitoring took place. The team also visited “Safe Home for Community Based Psychosocial Counseling” of FSCN in Changunarayan- 16, Bhaktapur and interacted with the children who were having a drawing session.

Second Day (Lalitpur district visit)

The second day inspection started from Bungmati, Karyabinayak municipality of Lalitpur district. The meeting and interaction program was conducted in ward office of Bungmati. Many local community people were also present in the interaction program. FSCN along with the supported from DCA/ NCA has constructed a drinking water supply scheme with a project name “Bungmati Drinking Water Supply Improvement Project” which is a PPCPM (Public Private Civil Society Partnership Model) project. Apart from this water supply project, other programs like “cash top-up support” for shelter construction, hygiene kit distribution and psychosocial support programs are also done by DCA/ NCA and FSCN on Bungmati and livelihood support program is going to start soon. The local people expressed their gratitude and appreciation towards the support from DCA/ NCA and FSCN.

After Bungmati, the inspection team went to Lakuribhanjyang, Lamatar, Mahalakshmi municipality of Lalitpur district. Like other sites, here also they were greeted and welcomed by the local people. The site inspection and interaction with local beneficiaries took place. The people expressed their gratitude for providing shelter support, hygiene kits, toilet construction materials and winterization kits by FSCN through DCA/ NCA.
