Women empowerment is the burning issue of the nation. Women are not getting equal opportunities in any sector like; economic, political and social. In rural areas, women are involved more in household activities and so they are not even getting chances for basic studies, involving in social activities and spending for things they want freely. After the long struggle, advocacy and lobbying of civil societies and non governmental organizations, the government has formulated the policy to provide 33% women representation in all sectors. The government has even legalized the property rights of women but before this they never had any property right.
In this preview of women rights, FSCN has incorporated this issue in its strategic plan as one of the major components. For strengthening and empowering the women, FSCN has been running programs for them. It has facilitated formation of women groups for their unity. They are provided various skills based training so that they can utilize their time in income generating activities. Group saving program, formation of women cooperatives, micro credits are some of the activities carried on by the women in the FSCN’s project area. FSCN has provided the trainings like capacity building, management, financial, leadership, gender and legal rights.
The project has shown the encouraging outcomes. The women are united and have formed groups themselves. They are able to run small-scale business. A major impact of the project is that they have realized their strength. Due to this, they are able to raise voices against anti social activities like alcoholism, gambling, domestic violence, and so on. Women are able to contact directly with different stakeholders about their issues and are enabled to run their own group very smoothly.
